As a sign of unity and solidarity, Amityville Memorial High School students, teachers and administrators took part in a “Pinwheels for Peace” ceremony to commemorate the International Day of Peace and promote their commitment to world peace initiatives on Sept. 21.

Coordinated by art teacher and National Art Honor Society advisor Jayne Grasso, the ceremony included special student performances by members of the NAHS reading original poetry and singing songs that promote peace. Gathered on the high school’s front lawn, participants planted colorful pinwheels in the ground, creating the shape of a peace sign.

“While promoting peace through music, art and poetry, students can contribute to our society,” said Director of Fine Arts Dr. Fran Fernandez.
