Coming together to celebrate Hispanic culture

Students old and young from the Amityville Union Free School District came together on Sept. 30 to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Members of Amityville Memorial High School’s Hispanic Heritage Club performed a variety of dance routines at Northwest Elementary School, delighting the first-, second- and third-graders who cheered and clapped along. The high school students began with a flag dance, a choreographed performance featuring the flags of countries with large Hispanic populations. That followed with several Latin dances including the Bachata, Merengue and Cumbia.

Northwest will hold an evening Hispanic Heritage Month celebration for students and their parents on Oct. 19 featuring Latin food, music and dance.
