Staff and students honored at Amityville’s monthly board meeting

On April 22, the Amityville School District’s Board of Education recognized several students and staff members for their excellence during their monthly meeting at Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School. 

Students and staff members from all five schools were recognized as the March Student Scholars of the Month and Staff of the Month. The district congratulates students Tiffany Asbell, Valentina Gonzalez-Garcia, Claudia Poesy Gutierrez, Caleb Magnani and Ivanna Mendez Oliva, and staff members Margaret Brooks, Noelle Collura, Paul Duguay, William Reid and Charlene Wolk on earning this distinction. 

Each honoree received a certificate of recognition from the board of education.

Edmund W. Miles Middle School holds a successful science fair

Students at Edmund W. Miles Middle School in Amityville recently held a successful science fair. 

The science fair, which took place in the middle school’s gymnasium, featured a wide variety of projects in which students focused on different topics. The topics included enhancing crops and animals, human reaction time, building a portable charger and how to make rock candy. 

The district would like to commend all of the students for their hard work in putting together their incredible projects during this year’s science fair.

Students explore numerous careers at Edmund W. Miles Middle School

On March 21, students met with a variety of career professionals at Edmund W. Miles Middle School in Amityville during Career Day.

Members of the National Junior Honor Society led the guests to different classrooms throughout the building during the event. Some of the guests were alumnus of the middle school and they spoke about the lessons they learned during their years in the Amityville School District.

Edmund W. Miles’ Career Day featured a wide range of speakers that included police officers, entrepreneurs, politicians, data analysts, educators, and health care professionals. The district would like to thank all of the guests who took the time to share their careers with Amityville’s middle school students.

Amityville holds districtwide Black History Month celebration

Students throughout the Amityville School District marked Black History Month with a series of performances at Amityville Memorial High School.  thumbnail264701

On Feb. 27, students throughout the Amityville School District marked Black History Month with a series of performances at Amityville Memorial High School. 

District administrators, staff members throughout the district, and parents gathered at the high school’s auditorium as students in grades K-12 celebrated Black culture through dance, music and poetry. Many of the performers wore matching clothes to promote unity, and each performance received a resounding applause from those in attendance. 

The district would like to commend all of the performers and directors for putting together a memorable celebration of Black history.
